How to Tune Into Your Body

I’ve always believed that the body doesn’t speak in words — it speaks in signals.
But what I’ve learned, both personally and professionally, is that understanding those signals requires more than one lens.

When something feels off in your body — whether it’s fatigue, pain, bloating, or unexplained emotion — it’s easy to go searching for one cause or one solution.

Is it medical? Is it stress? Is it energetic?

The truth is: it’s often all of it.

The Medical Lens: Ruling Out What Needs to Be Addressed

When I recently experienced flank pain near my kidneys — sharp, persistent, and unfamiliar — my first step was medical. I saw my doctor, ran all the tests, and ruled out infection or anything structural.

That’s the beauty of medicine — it helps us make sure we’re safe. It helps us rule out what’s urgent.
But when everything came back “normal,” I knew I had to keep listening.

Because “normal” doesn’t always mean well.

The Functional Lens: Asking Why

Once I knew it wasn’t medical, I shifted to the functional lens — the one that asks, Why is my body doing this?

I ran through what I call The Toddler Test, which mirrors the Four Female Fundamentals™ — your nervous system, metabolism, nutrients, and blood sugars.

I asked myself:

  • Am I tired — or tired of what I’m doing?
  • Am I nourished — or just busy and under-fuelling?
  • Have I connected with myself and others?
  • Have I moved my body or spent time in sunlight?
  • Are my basic needs being met?

This check-in revealed what my cells were already whispering: I wasn’t resting. I wasn’t spacious. My nervous system was depleted.

The Energetic Lens: Listening Beneath the Surface

Then came the third lens — the one most of us forget to check.
The energetic body holds memory, emotion, and stored experiences that can show up as physical symptoms when left unaddressed.

Through this lens, I realised that the flank pain wasn’t random — it was my adrenal glands and kidneys asking me to release fear and slow down. I wasn’t sick. I was processing.

Energetically, my body was recalibrating. Functionally, I was depleted. Medically, I was fine.

All of those truths can coexist.

The Female Fundamentals™ Framework

When we combine these three ways of listening — medical, functional, and energetic — we stop chasing symptoms and start understanding what our body is saying.

 

Sometimes your body doesn’t need another test or pill. It needs you to pause, get curious, and ask: What am I not giving myself permission to feel, rest from, or receive?
