Is Your Period a Red Flag, Beige Flag, or Green Flag?
Sep 16, 2025
If your period could talk, what would it say? Would it scream for help, whisper in frustration, or quietly nod in approval? Most of us were never taught how to understand our menstrual cycle beyond "it's coming" or "it's late." But what if your period is a powerful tool—a built-in feedback system that lets you know exactly what your body needs?
Here’s the truth: symptoms like pain, fatigue, clots, acne, mood swings, and irregularity aren’t just random or "normal" parts of being a woman. They are messages. And when you know how to interpret those messages, your period becomes one of your most powerful guides.
Red Flags are signs that something is seriously off and needs medical investigation. Think: period before age 9, heavy bleeding that soaks a pad or tampon every two hours, clots larger than a 20-cent coin, migraines while on the pill, or persistent pain down your legs. These are not things to ignore or push through. Your body is waving a red flag for a reason.
Beige Flags are sneakier. You’re not in immediate danger, but your body is trying to tell you that something's off. Longer or shorter cycles, period poos, extreme PMS, acne, hair loss, or the need to cancel plans every month? Beige flags. They often stem from imbalances in your nervous system, blood sugars, metabolism, or nutrient levels—things you can support and shift.
Green Flags? These are the wins. A 28-day cycle that varies only by a day or two. A bleed that lasts 3-5 days without pain. Slight mood changes, but no mental spirals. Skin staying relatively clear. The kind of periods you barely notice—because everything is working with your body.
Your menstrual cycle is a monthly report card. And once you start paying attention to its feedback, you can shift from surviving your period to using it as a tool for real transformation.
