Why Being “Good at Health” Might Be Making You Feel Worse

stress Oct 28, 2025

I work with so many women who are doing everything right—eating organic, meditating, breathwork, journaling, supplements, the list goes on.

But still… they feel exhausted. Their symptoms persist. And they blame themselves.

Here’s what I want you to know:

Doing all the “healthy” things from a place of fear or self-criticism isn’t healing—it’s just another form of stress.

It’s not about what you do, it’s about the energy behind it.

  • Are you meditating because you love how connected you feel afterward?
Or because you’re scared your nervous system will fall apart if you don’t?
  • Are you eating clean because it makes your body feel vibrant?
Or because you're afraid of what will happen if you “get it wrong”?

Many of us unknowingly approach health from our inner critic. That voice says:
“You’re lazy if you skip your workout.”
“You’re failing if you don’t meal prep this week.”
“You’re falling behind.”

This inner critic can masquerade as self-discipline—but it’s often rooted in shame, not self-trust.

One powerful reframe I offer my patients is to invite in their inner best friend.
What would your best friend say if she saw you exhausted on the couch after a huge week?
She wouldn’t say, “You should be doing more.” She’d say, “You’re doing your best. Rest. You’re allowed to pause.”

This simple mental shift can change everything.

In Episode #26 of What’s My Body Telling Me? “Is Your Stress Stressing You Out? Do This.”, I unpack how the “doing more” mindset can secretly keep your body in a stress loop—even when your habits seem healthy. If you’ve ever felt like your wellness routine has become another job, this one’s for you.
