Why Your Body Wants to Shake Off
Nov 04, 2025Have you ever started shaking after a big shock or burst into tears at the end of a stressful day—even when nothing "bad" happened?
That’s your nervous system doing its job.
While we’ve been taught to process stress by talking it out or pushing through, your body has its own language. When you experience something overwhelming, your body stores the energy of that event—especially if you didn’t get a chance to fully feel and release it. Over time, those unprocessed experiences can show up as:
- Digestive issues
- Muscle tension
- Fatigue
- Headaches
- Period problems
- Or a sense of disconnection from yourself
Somatic therapy—a body-based healing approach—recognises that your body remembers what your mind forgets. It gently helps you tune into stored emotions and trauma through physical sensations, movement, and awareness, without needing to rehash your entire past.
And often, that’s the missing piece.
You may be eating well, taking supplements, even meditating—yet still feel stuck. If you’re doing “all the right things” but not feeling better, your body might be asking you to not just do more, but feel more. To finally complete the stress cycles it's been holding onto for years.
Healing isn’t just about what you do—it’s about how deeply you listen.
I explored this with naturopath and somatic therapist Lara Ryan in Episode #28 of What’s My Body Telling Me?, including how stress stores in the cells and why reconnecting with your body can be the most healing thing you do.
